Complex superconducting magnet system analysis |
Completed orders:
KSTAR team (Taejon, South Korea) - KSTAR tokamak (field and force simulation)
ITER Team (Garching, Germany) - International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor
The specially developed code is dedicated to numerical simulation of dynamic thermal-hydraulic processes in cooled structures of SC magnet systems. A global model of a cooled structure is formed by a combination of basic one-dimension mathematical models: channels (for coolant flows) and rods (for solid materials) to provide pseudo 3D simulation in terms of transverse thermal exchange between various rods and channels. Such simple models enable adequate and accurate modelling of cooldown/warmup behaviour for magnet systems of complex geometry and reduce sufficiently computational efforts.
- powerful and versatile software package;
- full-scale realistic simulation of an entire system and separate components;
- 3D temperature field mapping
- predictive and optimisation modelling;
- easy to adapt for each particular application.
The code utilizes a finite-element representation. A possible number of finite elements in calculation mesh is up to 10,000,000 depending on the accuracy required. Those simulations have been applied to design and optimise the cryogenic system and generate cooldown/warmup scenarios for the ITER and KSTAR projects.
Applications:
- Fusion and particle accelerator magnets
- MRI-magnets
- Experimental and diagnostic devices for scientific research
- Superconducting generators
- Superconductive cables and joints
